Penelitian ini dilaksanakan karena undang-undang kurikulum baru yang dikeluarkan pemerintah, khususnya pemberlakuan kurikulum merdeka yang menekankan pada keterampilan dan karakter peserta didik. Dengan demikian, penerapan kurikulum merdeka di MTs Negeri 2 Padangsidimpuan menggugah rasa penasaran peneliti. Dengan menggunakan metode wawancara, observasi, dan dokumentasi. Jenis penelitian yang dilakukan adalah deskriptif kualitatif. Analisis data dilakukan melalui reduksi data, penyajian data, dan penarikan kesimpulan. Keabsahan data diuji melalui Triangulasi Teknik. Guru, administrator, wakil kepala sekolah, dan pengawas sekolah menjadi sumber informan penelitian ini. Temuan penelitian ini memperjelas bahwa pengalaman guru dengan kemandirian belajar yang rendah, sedikit referensi, akses belajar yang tidak setara, manajemen waktu, dan permasalahan lainnya terus menjadi hambatan terhadap penerapan kurikulum. Guru sebagai pilar utama dalam pelaksanaan kurikulum merdeka, tantangan yang dihadapi, yaitu; kesiapan guru dalam pelaksanaan kurikulum merdeka, kemampuan guru memanfaatkan fasilitas yang ada, kesulitan untuk menerapkan fungsi evaluasi pembelajaran, Adapun komponen penting yang sering diabaikan sekolah dalam mencapai tujuan kurikulum adalah Asesmen pembelajaran.
